My Thoughts on Social Media: LJ1
I personally do not post pictures of senior family members like my parents or grandparents on social media. I live a quite private life and not everyone needs to see every waking moment of my life. I generally post pictures of cool stuff I am doing, where I have traveled and what was there. I do not post where I am going, but I will post where I went when I come back from a trip. When I first jumped on social media in high school I had it all, Snapchat, Instagram. I deleted my Instagram after highschool, I just did not care about what other people were doing or posting. I have two friends now I Snapchat and we just send pics of hobbies that we are working on once every 3 weeks. I started my Facebook after high school. I enjoy it a bit more, it is a little more mature (sometimes) and I keep it focused to what I am interested in. Similarly, my LinkedIn is used to my advantage to network. I never post anything on Reddit. I solely use it for entertainment and browsing. If I could go back, I would never start on social media. Maybe Facebook? I just do not care too much, I am always outside, doing work around the house, out shooting my firearms, enjoying life. I am hardly on my phone as is. Though social media and technology are one of those things we simply cannot live without it and the world wouldn't spin without it.
I feel social media has its time and place. When you use it for the right thing it can greatly benefit you and when you use it for the wrong thing it can greatly hurt you. Self-expression on social media now? Meh go for it! Whatever makes you happy to post. Express yourself within reason I believe. Jobs, careers, places of employment can see all of this and they certainly do look at it when hiring. Selfies are fine, keep them professional and clean. Keeping a professional, clean, good online image makes all the difference to me. People are quick to judge and social media are one of the first things they will look at. How you portray yourself publicly can have lasting effects. Keep it clean, no family who doesn't want to be posted, no family that is older, you do not need to know what I am having for dinner each night, but if I go somewhere cool and got sweet pics you better believe I'll post them. No religion, no politics. Quite comparing yourself to others. They are living their life, you are living yours. Live your life and do what makes you happy. As far as quitting social media, I would in a heartbeat. I might even after writing this. It truely serves no purpose in my life except wasting my time.

Hey, I just want to mention that the world has "spun" without social media for billions of years!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your post. I agree i don't like posting everything I do on social media either. I think that people's lives should be more than just social media and we should worry about what goes on it .
